Research Project Digital Pathways of Chinese Migrants en Route Across the Americas

The research project investigates how Chinese migrants navigate transnational mobility across the Americas through their engagement with digital platforms. Using qualitative methodologies—including both on-site and digital ethnography—the research focuses on the role of social media platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Xiaohongshu in shaping migration imaginaries, addressing challenges, and documenting lived experiences throughout their complex journeys.

Starting in April 2025, the project and the female researcher tandem is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Art of the State of Baden Württemberg within the frame of the “Margarete von Wrangell-Juniorprofessorinnen-Programm”, co-financed by the European Social Fund.
