Research Project DISCURSOS PÚBLICOS DE LA PANDEMIA EN IBEROAMÉRICA
The project investigated the processes of social construction of knowledge and the perception of the COVID-19 pandemic through the analysis of discourses and the empirical verification of its effects. It was an international, interdisciplinary and multi-methodological cooperation dedicated to observe the discursive strategies of construction of social representations from its multiple dimensions, as well as the forms of reception and perception of the discourses and the attitudes they generate in the population.
The project was a collaboration of the Heidelberg Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS), the Heidelberg Center for Latin America (HCLA), and the Instituto de Comunicación e Imagen of the University of Chile (Chile) and the Instituto de Lingüística, University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and was funded from 2021 to 2023 by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Argentinian Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET).

Subproject 1: DPM_Chile
The subproject 'Discursos públicos mediáticos y juventudes en Chile' analyzed the relationship of the Chilean youth with public media discourses during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a first phase, the representation of youth in the digital media in Chile was studied. In a second phase, these discourses were transferred to the young people themselves in digital workshops to evaluate their reception and social attitudes towards public media discourses in the pandemic context.
The DPM_Chile project was developed in collaboration between the Institute of Communication and Image of the University of Chile (ICEI), the Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS), Heidelberg University, and the Heidelberg Center for Latin America (HCLA), Heidelberg University.

Subproject 2: Los discursos públicos de la pandemia en América Latina.
This subproject analyzed the socio-communicative dynamics of the discourses on the COVID-19 pandemic carried out in educational contexts in Argentina. In a first approach, it studied how the content and structure of the discourses related to the challenges generated by the pandemic for educational/training practices affected the perception, understanding and social attitudes of the Argentine population. More specifically, the project focused on different educational agents such as school children, teachers, public policy makers and managers. In order to understand the discursive construction of social representations, both the discourses on education produced by the media and the discourses of the educational institutions themselves and their political representatives were studied.
It included a research trip in February 2023 by HCIAS researchers Prof. Dr. Francisco Moreno-Fernández, Dr. Héctor Álvarez Mella and PhD student Sarah Thome.
This project was developed in collaboration between the Instituto de Lingüística, University of Buenos Aires, the Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS), Heidelberg University, and the Heidelberg Center for Latin America (HCLA), Heidelberg University.
