About Us HCIAS Structures

As an interdisciplinary central research institution of Heidelberg University, the HCIAS is affiliated with the Rectorate and partners across faculties, institutes, and other key academic units of the humanities and the social sciences. Our structures for research, research training as well as study and teaching in Ibero-American Studies are intentionally collaborative, reflecting the interdisciplinary spirit of the HCIAS. Together with our partners, since 2019 we have established three full professorships, four junior professorships and three bridge professorships, developed a master's degree program and a structured doctoral program. We have institutionalized an international scholarly and academic network and firmly established structural connections to the Heidelberg Center in Santiago de Chile, the HCLA. The HCIAS brings region-specific research expertise to Heidelberg University's campus in Latin America and initiates new thematic foci in collaboration with local universities, e.g., in the fields of communication and sustainability research.
