Research Project Food for Justice
Power, Politics and Food Inequalities in a Bioeconomy
The junior research group Food for Justice, which received funding by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) between 2019 and 2025, investigates social mobilization in response to injustices in food systems, as well as social and political innovations that address inequalities in food security related to cleavages such as class, gender, race, ethnicity, and nationality. Food for Justice was based at Freie Universität Berlin’s Institute for Latin American Studies from 2019 to 2022. Following the appointment of project leader Renata Motta as Professor of “Society, Culture and Communication in Ibero-America” at Heidelberg University, the group continued its research at the HCIAS between 2023 and 2025.
