The HCIAS MASTER'S PROGRAM critically examines the current social, political, economic, and environmental debates in Ibero-America by studying their reflection in social and public communication. With advanced knowledge from a variety of disciplines from the humanities and social sciences such as communication studies, political science, sociology, geography, linguistics, literature, cultural studies, and history, you will develop a holistic understanding of Ibero-America. You will gain an understanding of how languages and socio-cognitive factors shape the political and economic spaces of this macro-region, how social and communication dynamics interact in them, and which effects they have on the Ibero-American cultures, peoples, and their natural environments.
Basic Information
– Master’s program, 120 ECTS: 2 years full-time, or 4 years part-time
– Study program taught in English and Spanish
– Mobility window: research stays and internships
– On-site study program, location: Heidelberg University, Germany

– Undergraduate university degree in the humanities or social sciences
– Proficiency in English and Spanish
APPLICATION DEADLINE
– October 1 to March 31 for a study start in mid-April
– April 1 to September 30 for a study start in mid-October
Fees and funding opportunities
A fee of EUR 161.10 per semester is charged for studying at the University of Heidelberg. The amount is due at the beginning of each semester upon re-registration or must be paid as part of matriculation.
International students from non-EU (European Union) and non-EEA (European Economic Area - Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) countries with a foreign university entrance qualification will be required to pay a tuition fee of EUR 1500.- per semester.
There is a possibility of exemption from paying tuition fees for international students (e.g. due to exceptional talent, protection status, an internship, or an unforeseeable financial emergency). Deadline: July 15 for a study start in October; January 15 for a study start in April.

Goals
Students of the master’s program Communication and Society in Ibero-America have the possibility to develop their own individual profiles for professional fields in and outside academia. The knowledge and competencies you acquire prepare you for professional activity in research institutions to tackle current questions related to communication and society in Ibero-America from an interdisciplinary perspective. Outside academia, you are able to apply your knowledge of communication and society and your professional skills in working environments like communications departments of public institutions, NGOs, public relations, or press and media. A stay abroad within the course of study further promotes the building of your individual profile and will provide you with an opportunity for hands-on experience in future professional fields. The master’s program is closely tied to the HCIAS’ research program meaning the subject matter reflects current research on, in, and with Ibero-America. Learn from and with researchers at the HCIAS of Heidelberg University and abroad and become involved in their research projects.
